Essex Online Civil War Memorial Celebration Event
Friday, May 12 at 7pm in the Waterline Center
Join us for a special evening featuring the launch of the Town of Essex’ Online Civil War Memorial; an exclusive viewing of Civil War artifacts and archives from the collections of Essex Town Hall and the Essex Historical Society and Shipbuilding Museum; and a presentation by Salem State Professor Bethany Jay entitled “To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow and his orphan: Essex and the Civil War.”
Boat Building Challenge
Saturday, May 13 at 10am in the Waterline Center and Shipyard
Essex Shipbuilding takes part in the National Boat Building Challenge!
Come by the shipyard and join in the festivities as 2-3 teams compete to build, launch and race in a traditional New England skiff in less than 4 hours. Learn about the craftsmanship involved in building a boat while competitors race against tide and time to complete the task! Event begins at 10 am.
Building a Model Story: A presentation by model maker Len Burgess
with guest Harold Burnham

Join us as model maker Len Burgess unveils his model of the Essex Historical Society and Shipbuilding Museum’s Flagship, Lewis H. Story and speaks about the model building process. Len will be joined by the builder of the Lewis H. Story, master shipwright, Harold Burnham.
